EARLY KINDERGARTEN ENTRY
School Board policy JEB states: An individual who resides within the school division and is beyond school age (who has not reached his or her fifth birthday on or before September 30 of the school year or who has reached his or her 20th birthday on or before August 1st of the school year) may, at the discretion of the School Board, be admitted into the division schools.
Parents of children who turn five years old between October 1 and December 31 of the upcoming school year may request that their child be screened for early kindergarten entry. Here are the steps of the process:
- Parent completes this form and returns it to the front office of their zoned school.
- Principal forwards the forms to the School Administration Office.
- Supervisor of Elementary Reading and Preschool contacts families to schedule screening date.
- Screening results are sent to the building principal.
- The building principal reaches out to the family of the child to share the decision based on the screening results.
Please note: Children who fall in the age range listed above are not necessarily ready for kindergarten. The screening results act as a strong predictor indicating whether the child is ready for kindergarten or not. The building principal uses this information to help determine if the child is ready for kindergarten.
Screenings will be held on the following dates.
May 16, 2024 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
May 17, 2024 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
